Ariel Aparicio Wins OutMusic’s
Outstanding Rock Song of the Year

New York, NY: On May 23rd at the 7th Annual OutMusic Awards in New York City, Brooklyn artist, Ariel Aparicio received top honors for his recording of “People Who Died” as he was awarded Outstanding Rock Song of the Year. This is Aparicio’s first win from the OutMusic community.

“People Who Died” was released in 2010 on Aparicio’s “The Bedroom Tapes” EP and is a re-imagining of the Jim Carroll Band classic originally released on his 1980 “Catholic Boy” debut.

Of the award, Aparicio beamed, “I've been making and releasing music for a long time. This, honestly, legitimizes it for me. For my work to be recognized, especially in the GLBT community, means the world to me."

In February, NPR’s Alt.Latino premiered his song “Tattered Heart.” Of the song, NPR exclaims “Tattered Heart" is about giving yourself entirely, with no restraints. And that's exactly what Aparicio does. In an era of ironic coolness, his music is shamelessly honest and poignantly sentimental. He doesn't mock his musical deities; rather, he truly lets them possess him, fight for their turf within his music and whatever happens, happens. And the result is quite beautiful.”
